What is NDVI?

Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) :  When sunlight hits an object, certain wavelengths of this spectrum are absorbed and other wavelengths are reflected. The plant's vegetation pigment, chlorophyll, strongly absorbs visible light for use in photosynthesis. The cellular structure of leaves, on the other hand, strongly reflects near infrared light. The reflection of this light essentially tells you if the plant is healthy or if there is a problem.
